New position Scientific Researcher at GhEnToxLab

The laboratory of Environmental Toxicology and Aquatic Ecology, Environmental Toxicology Unit - GhEnToxLab (Ghent University) is looking for a full time Scientific Researcher.

PhD research project:

Development of in vitro assays to improve marine risk assessment

Scope:

Marine ecosystems comprise a vast surface of the earth and contribute significantly to our global health and economy. However, they are currently severely threatened and remain poorly understood. Within this project, we aim to develop and optimize in vitro assays to better understand the effects of marine stress on keystone fish species in the marine environment. The project will focus on omics technologies and cellular assays (Illumina Sequencing, Nanopore sequencing). The project will include both bench work (DNA and RNA extraction methods, sequencing) as well as bioinformatics.

Your profile:

We are looking for a highly motivated researcher with great interest in and/or very good knowledge in at least one of the following: (i) bioinformatics, (ii) Ecotoxicology, (iii) molecular biology. The project includes both wet lab analyses including DNA and RNA extractions and sequencing as well bioinformatics. Thus, strong background, considerable interest and demonstrable skills in either bioinformatics (e.g., R Biocoductor,…) or DNA/RNA sequencing are a prerequisite. Candidates should have (or almost have) an Ms. Sc. Diploma in a field related to the project (Environmental science, Biology, Ecology, Bio-engineering, …) and should also have a good command of English.

We offer:

- A full time PhD position for 1 year, with the potential for a three year extension dependent upon positive evaluation and available competitive funding

- Start date: 1st of October

How to apply:

Please send an E-mail before 15 August 2018 to Dr. Jana Asselman ( )  with a single attachment, containing a brief (maximum 1/2-page) motivation letter, your curriculum and proof of study results.
