Excellent report for our lab!

Excellent report for our lab!

A new, independent analysis of the research performance – based on scientific output – of all Ugent faculties, departments and research groups has just been released.
Here is the bottom line: we rank among the top 5 research groups of our faculty in terms of number and impact of papers. Our papers have a significantly higher impact compared to the world average in our research field and all other criteria also indicate the excellent performance of the Environmental Toxicology group.

Let's look at some numbers:

  • During the evaluation period 2002-2010 we published a total of 179 peer-reviewed papers.• The mean normalized (to research field) citation score for those papers was 1.33, which means that our papers were cited 33% times more than the world average.
  • The quality of the papers is further confirmed by the PPtop10% indicator. Our group obtained a score of 16%, i.e. based on citation impact we have 60% more papers in top 10-percentile as one would expected to have based on the world average in our research field. This indicator even increases to 18% in period 2007-2010.
  • As expected, the two main WoS fields we publish(ed) in are Environmental Sciences and Toxicology, for these fields the citation score is 36 and 53% above the world average, respectively. The PPtop10% indicator shows that in these fields we have 50 and 110% more papers in the top 10-percentile.
  • Finally, the analysis also demonstrates that 77% of our papers result from international collaborations and this figure has increased from 73 to 81% during the 2007-2010 period.

To all Environmental Tox co-workers: congratulations, be proud and keep up the good work!
